Platinum Winning Chapter

The Piedmont Triad Chapter of APICS was chartered in October, 1970, and serves the areas known as the  Piedmont Triad in North-central North Carolina and South-central Virginia.  The chapter works to achieve its vision of "Creating sustainable excellence in Supply Chain and Operations Management in a dynamic environment”. We bring value to individuals, organizations and our communities by providing leading-edge educational and networking opportunities that support continued personal and organizational growth.

We offer a variety of activities and educational opportunities to our membership and to all interested persons.  Our Professional Development Meetings, usually held on the second Tuesday of each month from September through May, feature excellent speakers and topics, good food and a chance to network and learn what other companies are doing.  We offer seminars and workshops each year on topics of current interest.  Our educational offerings are extensive.  We offer experienced instructor-led certification review workshops (both CPIM and CSCP) as chapter public courses, through local community colleges, and as in-company courses.  In addition, we offer the Principles of Operations Management series of courses, which are designed to educate practitioners who may be relatively new to their field of work and/or are seeking a good educational foundation in operations and supply chain management.  These Principles workshops are modularlized and can be combined to meet a wide variety of educational needs.


Our chapter benefits from an active and very strong volunteer Board of Directors whose membership over the years has been both enthusiastic and extremely capable.  Our Board is supported by an extensive Committee structure also made up of volunteers, all providing good opportunities to practice and hone business leadership skills.  Opportunities to serve on the Board or one of the Committees are available to any interested member.

Our chapter has achieved the APICS Chapter Benchmarking and Reporting (C-BAR) Platinum Award, the highest level, every year since its inception in 1988.  Chapters are judged yearly on the quality of the chapter’s efforts to achieve excellence in chapter management  and can be recognized at Gold, Silver, or Bronze award levels.  Those chapters that achieve and maintain Gold status for five or more consecutive years are recognized as a Platinum chapter for as long as each year is at the Gold level.  We continue to take pride in our vision statement, "The Piedmont Triad Chapter of APICS will be recognized as the foremost provider of education and knowledge in Operations Management by its stakeholders.”
